Getting the doors to close well
Mark Furneaux - webmaster
MASCOT August 94 describes problems that can be encountered with the little cups that make up part of the door hinge. In my case, the problem turned out to be rather simpler. Careful investigation of the scuff marks where the door was closing too tightly revealed that the tightness of fit could only be brought about by the door trim catching the door surround, at the base by the running boards.
The cure was to remove the door trim (about 5 screws) carefully peal back the leather at the back, over the edge, and a little on the main face, and surform off enough off the plywood surround to improve the fit - about 0.5cm in my case, re-glue and staple the leather to the plywood and re-attach the door trim to the door.
Result - a much better fitting door.
