Spares News - from the Spares Coordinator

When the subject of club spares came up at the recent committee meeting, it was encouraging to see the spares fund in such a healthy position. Much of this money is due to sales from two major stock purchases, of mainly Roadster collections, and represents a good return on personal job lots, rounded up over the years, mainly via auto jumbles and dismantled cars.

Looking ahead, job lots like these will become increasingly difficult to find, and most old car clubs are now typically concentrating on the remanufacture of consumables as the way to satisfy demand for the most popular parts. More expensive, yes, but realistically the only way forward, apart from EBay, which still deals with old and new stock items, but in a more competitive environment. So with the words `remanufacture' and 'consumables' in mind, I raised a few projects for discussion at the meeting, and these largely met with the committee's approval. I list them here for general interest, but perhaps they might also stir out other ideas from members.

Hubcaps - chromed - 4AB/4AD Roadster, SM1500 (1951 on), Hunter.
Top rad hose - bulbous - -4AD Roadster, SM1500, Hunter
Distributor cap (Lucas 418888) - all post war Singer (1946-58) except twin carb.
Start/choke cables - All Roadsters & 10 hp saloon
Contact breaker set (Lucas 400415) - Most Singer 4 cyl cars 1935-39 ( DK 4A dist)
Radiator mascot - fits all production Roadsters from 1939-55
