Roadster Oil Cap

Peter Watts

For many years, after a long run in my Roadster, I used to find that the bulkhead and forward facing areas of the engine were covered in oil. I tried all sorts of solutions, concentrating mainly on the joints at the front of the cylinder head and around the timing chain, all to no avail. It then occurred to me that there was always oil pooled in the lip of the rocker cover, and the only place that it could come from was the oil filler. Renewing the seal in the cap had no effect, so I made up a baffle plate and screwed it to the underside of the cap, spaced with a suitable piece of aluminium to allow the spring clips to engage the pins inside the filler neck. Hey presto! No more oil on the bulkhead. The enclosed picture illustrates the idea.
